FOREIGN TRADE IN GOODS

The COVID-19 pandemic has directly affected international trade in goods; therefore, in the period from January to July 2020, its effects on the foreign trade in goods of the Republic of Croatia are also noticeable. According to provisional data, from January to July, total export of the Republic of Croatia amounted to 8.2 billion euros, while total import was 13.1 billion euros. Foreign trade deficit amounted to 4.9 billion euros in the observed period, which was 19.2% lower than in the same period of the previous year.

The most important foreign trade partners of the Republic of Croatia were EU Member States. In the first seven months of 2020, the EU market had a share of 76.2% in the total foreign trade in goods of the Republic of Croatia. The largest foreign trade partners from the EU in the first seven months of 2020, observing in euros, were Germany, with a share of 14.5%, Italy, with a share of 12.5%, and Slovenia, with a share of 11.1%. The largest foreign trade partners outside the EU, with which the Republic of Croatia realised trade in goods in the first seven months, were its neighbouring countries Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Serbia. From January to July 2020, Bosnia and Herzegovina had a share of 5.1% and Serbia of 3.3% in the total foreign trade in goods of the Republic of Croatia.

Observing the total export of the Republic of Croatia in the first seven months of 2020, which amounted to 8.2 billion euros, the most exported goods were electrical machinery, appliances and devices, worth 609.1 million euros, petroleum and petroleum products, worth 577.6 million euros, as well as medicinal and pharmaceutical products, worth 570.8 million euros. At the same time, the total import of the Republic of Croatia amounted to 13.1 billion euros. From January to July 2020, the most imported goods were medicinal and pharmaceutical products, worth 999.0 million euros, road vehicles, worth 891.1 million euros, as well as petroleum and petroleum products, worth 846.2 million euros.
