Under the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to working-day adjusted indices, industrial production in the Republic of Croatia in May 2020, compared to May of the previous year, decreased by 12.4%, while compared to April 2020, the seasonally and working-day adjusted industrial production decreased by 3.5% at the monthly level.
According to the Main Industrial Groupings (GIGs 2009.), out of five aggregates, three recorded a decrease at the monthly level. Capital goods (BB) decreased by 13.8%, Intermediate goods (AI) by 7.5% and Non-durable consumer goods (CN) by 7.2%. An increase was recorded in Durable consumer goods (CD), of 67.3%, and in Energy (AE), of 6.3%.
The mitigation of measures for preventing the spread of the disease by opening borders as well as stores and catering facilities led to an increase in industrial production in certain divisions of NKD 2007. Of a total of 28 divisions included in the calculation of the industrial production volume index, 10 recorded an increase in industrial production at the monthly level. The largest increase was recorded in the manufacture of furniture (58.1%) and manufacture of beverages (33.1%).
