Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, in October 2020, the real turnover of retail trade recorded the lowest decrease at the annual level, of 2.5%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

In October 2020, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 5.4% higher compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 3.3% in nominal terms in October 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 18.8%, and Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods, of 11.1%.

In October 2020, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, there was an increase in turnover in six trade branches, while other trade branches recorded a decrease. The largest increase in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Other non-store retail sale, of 12.3%, and Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, motorcycles and related parts and accessories, of 8.3%, while the largest decrease in turnover was recorded in trade branch Retail sale via Internet or via mail order, of 23.6%.

In October 2020, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet decreased by 23.6%.
