Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

In November 2021, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level, by as much as 5.2%, compared to the same month of the previous year, which was the tenth consecutive month of growth after the decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That turnover was 4.5% higher than in November 2019.

Comparing the first eleven months of 2021 with the same period of 2019, the real working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was still higher by 5.7%.

In November 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 2.0% lower than in the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 12.8% in nominal terms in November 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year. All eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 32.9%), in Motor vehicles, parts and accessories (of 22.4%) and in Other non-store retail sale (of 15.6%).

In November 2021, as compared to November 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 9.9%, with the largest increase being recorded in the trade branch Retail sale via Internet or via mail order (of 32.4%). In the first eleven months of this year, compared to the same period of 2019, that turnover increased by 8.2%, while a decrease in turnover was recorded in only two trade branches: Motor vehicles, parts and accessories (of 7.1%) and Textile, clothing and footwear (of 4.0%).

In November 2021, compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, the only increase in nominal retail trade turnover was recorded in three trade branches. The largest increase was realised in the trade branch Retail sale via Internet or via mail order (of 44.8%), while the turnover decreased in eight trade branches. The largest decrease was recorded in the following trade branches: Textile, clothing and footwear (of 15.0%), Computer equipment, books and other (of 14.9%) and Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 13.6%).

In November 2021, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased by as much as 44.8%.
