In December 2021, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level, by 8.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, thus increasing continuously since February 2021, when it decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This turnover was 5.1% higher than in December 2019.
When comparing the whole of 2021 with 2019, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade was 5.6% higher.
In December 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 1.4% higher than in the previous month.
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 16.8% in nominal terms in December 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year. All of the eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 41.6%), Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 38.8%), Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles (of 37.0%) and Other non-store retail sale (of 22.8%).
In December 2021, as compared to December 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 11.9%, with the largest increase being recorded in trade branch Retail sale via Internet or via mail order (of 23.6%). In 2021, as compared to 2019, this turnover increased by 8.5%, while a decrease in turnover was recorded by only two trade branches: Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles (of 6.4%) and Textile, clothing and footwear (of 3.8%).
In December 2021, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, there was an increase in turnover in nine trade branches. The largest increase in turnover was realised in trade branches Computer equipment, books, newspapers and other (of 27.7%), Other non-specialised stores (of 27.4%) and Textile, clothing and footwear (of 23.8%).
In December 2021, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet decreased by 13.4%.
