Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since March 2020, that is, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, the real turnover of retail trade has been continuously decreasing; thus, in January 2021, it decreased at the annual level by 0.3%, and it is the mildest decrease, compared to the same month of the previous year.

In January 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 4.2% higher compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 2.1% in nominal terms in January 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in the following trade branches: Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, of 18.9%, Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 13.3%, and Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods, of 11.9%.

In January 2021, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, none of the trade branches realised an increase in turnover. The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in the following trade branches: Other non-specialised stores, of 31.1%, and Computer equipment, books and newspapers, games and toys, flowers and seeds, watches and jewellery and other retail sale in specialised stores, of 28.0%.

In January 2021, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet decreased by 26.3%.
