RETAIL TRADE, JANUARY 2023
In January 2023, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level by 1.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. This turnover was 9.3% higher than in January 2019. In January 2023, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 0.3% higher compared to the previous month.
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 15.4% in nominal terms in January 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year. Ten out of eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in the following branches: Non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 23.9%), Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles (of 22.6%), Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 22.5%) and Computer equipment, books, newspapers and other (of 18.8%). The turnover decreased only in one trade branch − Retail sale via Internet (by 0.2%).
In January 2023, as compared to January 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 34.7%, with the largest increase being recorded in the following trade branches: Non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 51.2%), Computer equipment, books, newspapers and other (of 47.6%), Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 42.1%) and Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco predominating (of 34.4%).
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 21.4% in nominal terms in January 2023 compared to the previous month. The turnover decreased in all of eleven trade branches, with the largest decrease being recorded in the following trade branches: Non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 34.9%), Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 27.0%), Specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco (of 26.1%) and Computer equipment, books, newspapers and other (of 25.5%).
In January 2023, as compared to the previous month, the turnover in Retail sale via Internet decreased by 23.3%.
