Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since March 2020, that is, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, the real turnover of retail trade has increased for the first time; thus, in February 2021, it increased at the annual level by 3.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In February 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 4.4% higher compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 1.2% in nominal terms in February 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in the following trade branches: Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, motorcycles and related parts and accessories, of 13.1%, and Textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods, of 9.1%.

In February 2021, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, there was an increase in turnover in nine trade branches. The largest increase in turnover was recorded in the following trade branches: Computer equipment, books and newspapers, games and toys, flowers and seeds, watches and jewellery and other retail sale in specialised stores, of 16.2%, and Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, motorcycles and related parts and accessories, of 12.1%.

In February 2021, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased by 5.2%.
