Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

In March 2022, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level, by 3.6%, compared to the same month of the previous year, thus increasing continuously since February 2021, when it decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This turnover was 10.1% higher than in March 2019.

In March 2022, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 2.0% higher compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 12.0% in nominal terms in March 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year. Nine out of eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 37.6%), Other non-store retail sale (of 15.2%), and Electrical household appliances, furniture and other household articles (of 13.5%).

In March 2022, as compared to March 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 23.4%, with the largest increase being recorded in trade branches Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 42.0%), Other non-store retail sale (of 31.0%), Other non-specialised stores (of 28.4%) and Electrical household appliances, furniture and other household articles (of 28.3%).

In March 2022, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, all eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover. The largest increase in turnover was recorded in trade branches Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 34.1%), Electrical household appliances, furniture and other household articles (of 27.7%), Computer equipment, books and other articles (of 23.3%) and Other non-specialised stores (of 19.9%).

In March 2022 compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased by 2.9%.
