Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, in April 2021, the real turnover of retail trade recorded the strongest increase at the annual level for the third time since March 2020, by 34.4%, compared to the same month of the previous year.
In April 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 2.1% lower than in the previous month.
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 36.0% in nominal terms in April 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year. As in the previous month, the largest increase in turnover was recorded in the sale of clothing and footwear, of as much as 524.8%, as expected, because their turnover fell the most of all trade branches in the same month of the previous year (by 87.8%).
The only decrease in nominal turnover in April 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year was recorded in Retail sale via Internet or via mail order (of 6.8%), as expected, because this trade branch was the only one to record an increase in turnover in April of the previous year, of 19.8%, due to the pandemic.
In April 2021 compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, most of the trade branches had a decrease in turnover. The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in the following trade branches: Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, motorcycles and related parts and accessories (of 10.7%), Other non-store retail sale (of 9.7%) and Other non-specialised stores (of 9.1%).
In April 2021 compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet decreased by 6.2%.
