In May 2021, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level, by 16.5%, compared to the same month of the previous year, which was the fourth consecutive month of growth after the decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This turnover was 7.4% higher than in May 2019.
Comparing the first five months of 2021 with the same period of 2019, the real working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was still higher by 5.6%.
In May 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 6.4% higher than in the previous month.
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 19.6% in nominal terms in May 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year. All trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in Other non-store retail sale (of 43.3%) and Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 41.6%).
In May 2021, as compared to May 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 7.4%. In the first five months of this year, compared to the same period of 2019, this turnover increased by 6.5%, while a decrease in turnover was recorded by only three trade branches: Textile, clothing and footwear (of 10.1%), Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles (of 10.0%) and Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 0.4%).
In May 2021, compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, the only decrease in nominal retail trade turnover was recorded in the trade branch Dispensing chemists, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (of 1.2%). All other trade branches recorded an increase, with the largest one being recorded in the following trade branches: Textile, clothing and footwear (of 35.5%), Other non-specialised stores (of 14.5%) and Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 13.1%).
In May 2021, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased by 6.5%.
