Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, in August 2020, the real turnover of retail trade continued to decrease at the annual level, by 8.6%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

In August 2020, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 1.1% lower compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 10.1% in nominal terms in August 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Other non-store retail sale, of 19.5%, and Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 19.2%.

In August 2020, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, there was a decrease in turnover of most of the trade branches, while a slight increase in turnover was realised in only three trade branches. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in trade branches Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, of 24.1%, and Electrical household appliances, furniture and other household articles, of 16.4%. The largest increase in turnover was realised in trade branch Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 2.5%.

In August 2020, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased by 22.3%, which was the largest increase since April this year.
