Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, in September 2020, for the seventh month in a row, the real turnover of retail trade decreased at the annual level, by 7.3%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

In September 2020, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 1.8% higher compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 7.2% in nominal terms in September 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Other non-store retail sale, of 21.7%, and Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 19.1%.

In September 2020 compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, the retail trade turnover decreased in four trade branches, while the remaining trade branches recorded an increase. The largest increase in turnover was recorded in trade branches Computer equipment, books and newspapers, of 12.4%, and Retail sale via Internet or via mail order, of 12.0%, while the largest decrease in turnover was recorded in trade branch Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 20.9%.

In September 2020 compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet continued to increase, by 12.0%.
