NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

The amount of sold active substances for herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and other pesticides is presented at the level of chemical classes. Data are presented at the level of the Republic of Croatia.

Data on pesticide sales have been taken over from the Ministry of Agriculture (Department for Sustainable Use of Pesticides and Pesticide Residues).

The methodology is fully harmonised with Eurostat recommendations (Regulation (EC) No 1185/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2009 concerning statistics on pesticides).  

 

Definitions

Active substances means chemical elements and their compounds as they occur naturally or by manufacture, having general or specific action against harmful organisms or on plants, parts of plants or plant products.

Fungicides are products for the extermination of fungi provoking vegetal diseases, including bactericides for extermination of microbes.

Herbicides are products for the extermination of weeds or undesirable plants in general.

Insecticides are products for the extermination of insects, including acaricides for the extermination of mites.

Other pesticides include molluscicides for the extermination of snails, plant growth regulators, vegetal oils, soil sterilants, rodenticides for the extermination of rodents and other plant protection products.
