NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

Data on arable land sown with crops, data on total agricultural land by type of cultivation, land under mixed and combined crops, number of fruit trees, grapevines and data on the renting of land for legal entities and their parts are collected through the Report on Land Sown and Crops, Fruit Trees and Grapevines at the end of spring harvest. These data are collected separately for legal entities and their parts and for private family farms.

Data on agricultural land refer to the situation as on 31 May of every year and persent agricultural land used in the reference year, that is, own land and land taken lease of minus rented land.

Coverage and comparabillity

Reporting units are legal entities and parts of legal entities as well as private family farms defined in the section A Agriculture, hunting and forestry and section B Fishing, according to the National Classification of Economic Activities (Narodne novine, official gazette of the Republic of Croatia, No. 3/97).

The coverage for legal entities and their parts is selective, and data are reported, while the coverage for private family farms is full and data are estimated.

Estimates are done by statistical estimators. They use cadastre data by categories of cultivation of agricultural land for every estimated area.

Estimated area is the area of one or more cadastral municipalities in an entirety.
