PURCHASE AND SALE OF AGRICULTURAL, FISHING AND FORESTRY PRODUCTS
IN DECEMBER 20031)

 

The total sale and purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products in December 2003 amounted 588 970 852 kuna, out of which the sale from own production of legal entities and their parts was 443 155 979 kuna (75.2%) and the purchase from private family farms was 145 814 873 kuna (24.8%).

 

 

The total sale or purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products in December 2003, as compared to December 2002, decreased by 12.7%, where the sale of products from own production of legal entities and their parts decreased by 8.4%, and the purchase from private family farms decreased by 23.7%.

 

In the structure of the total sale or purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products in December 2003 live fish,fresh or chilled 28.5%, wood in the rough made 16.6%, raw cows milk 13.0%, cereals 8.1%, live pigs 7.2%, wine 5.0%, live poultry 4.7%, live cattle 3.5%, and eggs in shells 3.2% make the greatest share.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

 

Source and methods of data collection

 

Sale and purchase of agricultural, forestry, and fishing products (Forms PO-31a/M and PO-31b/M) are collected on the monthly basis on new forms harmonised with the NCEA (NN, No. 3/97), the Nomenclature of Plant Products and Services (NPPS), the Nomenclature of the Livestock Products and Services (NLPS) and the Nomenclature of Fishing Products and Services (NFPS) (NN, No. 85/98). They are also harmonised with the Nomenclature of Forestry Products and Services (NFPS), published in Narodne novine No. 46/98.

 

Reporting units, for which monthly reports on the sale and purchase of agricultural, forestry and fishing products are submitted (Forms PO-31a/M and PO-31b/M), are legal entities and their parts classified into section A (Agriculture, hunting and forestry), except for group 01.5 (Hunting, trapping and game propagation) and section B (Fishing) as well as other legal entities engaged in purchasing the products from family farms for further sale or their processing in own establishments (e.g. agricultural co-operatives, trading, manufacturing and other organisations) classified in other activities.

 

Coverage and comparability

 

The coverage is selective, included are legal entities with 10 or more persons in employment engaged in the activities of divisions from sections A and B.

 

The Form PO-31a/M explores the sale of agricultural, forestry and fishing products from own production of legal entities and their parts.

 

The Form PO-31b/M explores the purchase of agricultural, forestry and fishing products from family farms with the aim of a further sale or processing.

 

The subject of monthly surveys on sale and purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products is collecting of data on quantities of products purchased or sold  during the reporting month and the value of products, which provides average values per unit of sold or purchased agricultural, fishing and forestry products.

 

Forms PO-31a/M and PO-31b/M cover about 127 most important products.

 

This Release provides financial data on sale or purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products by groups of products, as well as a selection of (main) products that are typical for a particular season, that is, products with a higher share in the total sale or purchase of agricultural, fishing and forestry products during a year.

 

Premiums and other financial support that producers receive as a compensation for delivered products are not included in the value of purchase or sale of agricultural, forestry and fishing products. The values of products do not include VAT.

 

 

Definitions

 

Vegetables include potatoes, peas, beans and other shelled leguminous vegetables, while other vegetables are classified into the group Other vegetables, fresh or chilled.

 

Oil seeds and fruits are soya beans, oil rape and sunflower.

 

Plants for use in perfumery and pharmacy industries include medicinal herbs, beet seeds and forage plant seeds.

 

Living plants and cut flowers include nursery fruit trees, wine scions, cut flowers, flower and fruit seeds, etc.

 

Data on wine and olive oil cover only products made from grapes and olives from own production.

 

Other animals, live, include rabbits and fur-bearers.

 

Other animal products are natural honey and beeswax.

 

Cattle, pigs and horses include thoroughbred head.

 

Raw skins and hides and furs include raw calfskinsand pigskins, which is a departure from the Nomenclature of Livestock Products and Services - NLPS 98.
