NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Definition

Producers’ prices of industrial products are either prices at which a producer sells its products at the domestic market in the largest quantities, loaded free on rail (truck) at factory gate at the location of a producer or a price charged to another company by a producer. The selling price is increased for the amount of the compensation obtained by the seller, and deducted for the amount of the discount, rebate, value added tax and excises.

Classification and coverage

Producers’ prices of industrial products are collected according to the Nomenclature of Industrial Products (NIP) and the NKD 2002. in such a way that selected legal entities submit them on the monthly basis for selected products from the NKD 2002. sections C, D and E.

For monitoring purposes, the most important products have been selected from each division, that is, products with the highest sale on the domestic market. Legal entities are selected according to their share in production of certain products.

Prices are monitored in about 396 legal entities for approximately 424 industrial products. Some 916 observations are done every month.

Weights

Since January 2002, a structure based on the gross value added, taken from the 2000 Annual Industry Report, has been applied. At the group level, weights represent sale value reduced by exports.

The weighting system is changed every five years, while weights are partly corrected every year, in relation to changes in prices.

Index calculation

Individual indices for each representative product are calculated from data on prices by dividing prices of a current month by prices of a reference month (December of a previous year).

Aggregate indices, that is, indices of a group, division, section, subsection and the total index, are calculated by a weighted arithmetic mean from individual indices according to the modified Laspeyres  formula:

Whereby:

I        is an index of a group, division, section, subsection and the total index

Pn    is a price in a current period (month)

Po    is a price in a base period

Wo   is a relative sale structure in a base period.
