NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source

Data are collected through regular annual survey “Annual Report on Foreign Vessels for Leisure and Sports” for the year 2004.

Reporting units and coverage

Reporting units in this survey are harbour master’s offices and their branch offices.

The coverage is in this survey full, which means that it includes all harbour master’s offices and their branch offices.

Since 2003 the question on the mode of arrival has been added to the questionnaire for vessels that in the previous year stayed throughout the winter in Croatia. Since 2004 data for countries that were earlier presented jointly within the item Other countries have been monitored separately. Therefore, indices for these data could not been presented.

Definitions

In the nautical tourism statistics, vessels for leisure and sport are distinguished as yachts (motor yachts and sailboats) and other vessels.

Motor yacht is an engine-operated vessel intended for leisure, sports or recreation, equipped with a cabin with at least two beds, a toilet and cooking appliances.

Sailboat is a wind-powered vessel intended for leisure, sports or recreation. It is equipped with a cabin with at least two beds, a toilet and cooking appliances.

Other vessels are boats (made of wood, plastic, rubber and the like) 3 or more meters long or less than 3 meters long if they are equipped with an engine. Included are also motorboats if they do not meet requirements for yachts.
