PERSONS IN PAID EMPLOYMENT BY ACTIVITY

February 2006

In February 2006, the number of persons in paid employment in legal entities in the Republic of Croatia amounted to 1 102 491, out of which there were 496 267 women. As compared to January 2006, the total number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.3% and the number of employed women by 0.2%.

The total number of persons in employment and the number of employed women decreased in February 2006 by 0.2%, as compared to the previous month.

The total number of persons in employment in trade and crafts and free lances and the number of women increased by 0.2%.The total number of insured persons – private farmers decreased by 0.5%, out of which the number of women by 1.2%.

The number of unemployed persons decreased in February 2006 by 0.2%, but the number of unemployed women increased by 0.1%, as compared to January 2006. The total registered unemployment rate was 18.3%, and for women 22.6%.

On the basis of the full-coverage annual survey RAD-1G, the situation as on 31 March 2005, the published data on persons in employment in legal entities, calculated according to the monthly survey RAD-1, were corrected at the beginning of March 2006. Therefore, data covering the period from February 2005 to January 2006 are final, while data for other months are provisional. Final data on persons in paid employment by months, by sex and by the NKD 2002. will be published in the First Release No. 9.2.6.

NOTES OF METHODOLOGY

Data source

The number of persons in paid employment in legal entities results from data processing of regular annual and monthly surveys, which comprises 70% of persons in paid employment in each NKD 2002. division.

These surveys cover legal entities of all types of ownership, government bodies, and bodies of local and regional self-government units on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected through the report filled in by legal entities on the basis of the records of persons in employment.

Since January 2004, data on the number of persons in paid employment in legal entities have included the number of persons employed in the police and defence, forces.

Data on persons in employment in crafts and trades and free lances are processed according to the records on pension insurance beneficiaries obtained from the Croatian Institute for Pension Insurance.

The Croatian Institute for Pension Insurance also provides data on insured persons − private farmers.

The data of unemployed persons are obtained from the Croatian Employment Service.

Coverage and comparability

The survey on persons in paid employment in legal entities includes all persons who have signed a work contract, regardless of the type of work contract and whether they work full time or less than full time.

The survey on persons in crafts and trades and free lances includes owners and employees registered with the Croatian Institute for Pension Insurance.

Definitions

Persons in paid employment are all persons who have signed a work contract with the employer for a fixed or unspecified period of time, irrespective of type of ownership and of whether they work full time or less than full time.

Annual average of persons in paid employment is calculated on the basis of data by months corrected by the full coverage data with the situation as on 31 March.

Unemployment rate is calculated as a ratio of unemployed persons and total active population (labour force).
