GRADUATES ON PROFESSIONAL AND UNIVERSITY STUDY IN 2007

This first release reports on students who graduated from institutions of higher education in the Republic of Croatia either according to the "old" programme (professional and university undergraduate study) or the Bologna process (professional and specialist professional graduate study, undergraduate, graduate and integrated undergraduate and graduate university study).

During 2007, there were 20 969 students who graduated from institutions of higher education, which was by 7.2% more than in the previous year. Out of the total number of graduated students, 61.6% were full-time and 38.4% part-time ones. Out of the full-time students, 65.5% were supported by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, while the rest of 34.5% self-financed themselves. The share of female students who graduated in 2007 was 58.1%, which was by 1.2% less than in the previous year.

Out of the total number of students who graduated in 2007, 15.3% graduated from polytechnics, 6.0% from schools of professional higher education, 77.3% from faculties (out of that, 33.7% from professional studies and 66.3% from university studies) and 1.4% from art academies.

Regarding their age, 1.2% of students who graduated in 2007 were under 21 years of age, 32.9% were in the 21 – 23 age group, 34.9% were in the 24 – 26 age group, 12.4% were in the 27 − 29 age group and 18.6% were in the 30-and-over age group.

Out of the total number of students, 96.1% of them graduated according to the “old” programme and 3.9% according to the Bologna process.

The largest number of students, 51.9% of them, graduated from an undergraduate university study, followed by 44.2% who graduated from an undergraduate professional study, 2.8% from a professional study according to the Bologna process, 0.9% from an undergraduate university study and 0.2% from a specialist professional graduate study.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and method of data collection

Data are the result of the annual data processing on students graduated from institutions of higher education in the Republic of Croatia in 2007. They are collected through the questionnaire entitled Statistical Sheet for Students Graduated from Professional and University Study (ŠV-50 form), which is filled in by students graduated from undergraduate professional or university studies.

Coverage and comparability

The statistical survey covers all students who graduated from the institutions of higher education on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. It includes both students who graduated according to the “old” programme and those who graduated according to the Bologna process. Data are comparable to those from previous years.
