In March 2021, twelve months after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, the real turnover of retail trade recorded an expected strong increase at the annual level, of 14.3%, compared to the same month of the previous year.
In March 2021, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 2.4% lower than in the previous month.
According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 17.9% in nominal terms in March 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest increase in turnover was recorded in the sale of clothing and footwear, of as much as 105.5%, as expected, because their turnover fell the most of all trade branches in the same month of the previous year (by 57.8%).
Also, as expected, two trade branches were the only ones to record a decrease in retail trade turnover in March 2021, which were also the only ones to record an increase in turnover in March of the previous year due to the pandemic, namely Pharmaceutical and medical products (of 7.6%) and Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco predominating (of 1.1%).
In March 2021, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, all eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. The largest increase in turnover was realised in trade branches Motor vehicles, parts and accessories (of 30.1%), Electrical appliances, furniture and other articles (of 26.1%) and Non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 24.4%).
In March 2021 compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet increased, by 11.4%.
