Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic indicators

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, in July 2020, the real turnover of retail trade decreased at the annual level for the fifth month in a row, by 6.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In July 2020, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 0.9% lower compared to the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover decreased by 7.7% in nominal terms in July 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Other non-store retail sale, of 23.1%, and Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 17.7%.

In July 2020, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, there was an increase in turnover of most of the trade branches, while a decrease in turnover was realised in only three trade branches. The largest increase in turnover was realised in trade branches Automotive fuels and lubricants, of 25.5%, and Non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating, of 19.9%. The largest decrease in turnover was realised in trade branch Textile, clothing and footwear, of 5.7%.

In July 2020, as compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail sale via Internet continued to increase slightly, by 3.3%.
