PASSENGER TRANSPORT

The total number of passengers carried in the fourth quarter of 2022 amounted to 18.6 million, which means that it increased by 25.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 when 14.9 million passengers were carried. In relation to the fourth quarter of 2019, the number of passengers carried dropped by 6.1%.

An increase in the transport of passengers was recorded in the road line transport by coaches, of 24.7%, while the transport of passengers was 6.5% lower than in the same quarter of 2019. An increase was also recorded in the transport by Croatian air carriers in the fourth quarter of 2022, of 82.3%, while compared to the same quarter of 2019 there was an increase of 10.1%. The Croatian shippers in seawater and coastal transport realised an increase in the number of passengers of 13.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, but also a decrease of 6.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. In the railway transport, according to the provisional data, 26.8% more passengers were transported compared to the same period of 2021 and 6.5% less passengers compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

GOODS TRANSPORT

A total of 30.8 million tonnes of goods were transported in the fourth quarter of 2022, which was a decrease of 9.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. In relation to the same quarter of 2019, the goods transport decreased by 1.4%.

A decrease in the transport of goods was recorded in the seawater and coastal transport of goods by Croatian shippers, of 13.7%, in the transport of goods by freight vehicles with Croatian plates, of 6.7%, in inland waterway transport by ships under all flags, of 9.2%, and by railway carriers, of 6.4%. An increase of 23.0% was realised by Croatian air carriers and of 2.8% in the pipeline transport.

TRAFFIC IN SEAPORTS AND AIRPORTS

In the fourth quarter of 2022, a total of 4.3 million passengers embarked or disembarked in Croatian seaports. Compared to the same period of 2021, it was an increase of 17.1%. In relation to the fourth quarter of 2019, a decrease of 3.9% was recorded.

National traffic of passengers increased by 14.5% and international traffic by 112.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. In relation to the fourth quarter of 2019, national traffic of passengers was 0.8% lower and international traffic was 44.6% lower.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, the number of passengers on ferries and passenger ships amounted to 4.1 million, which was 14.5% more than in the same period of 2021. An increase in the number of passengers was recorded in all major ports as well as in international traffic.

Out of the total number of passengers in seaports, 168 thousand disembarked from cruise ships and visited, among others, the ports of Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Zadar and Šibenik. This was an increase of 126.8% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 and a decrease of 43.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

Observing by individual months, in October 2022 there was an increase in passenger traffic in seaports of 23.9% compared to October 2021, in November 2022 it increased by 16.5% compared to November 2021, while in December 2022 it increased by 4.1% compared to December 2021.

In January 2023, an increase of 10.5% was recorded in the traffic of passengers, compared to January 2022. The national traffic of passengers increased by 10.3%, while the international traffic of passengers decreased by 15.8%. Compared to January 2021, the total traffic of passengers in seaports increased by 32.4%, while compared to January 2019, it increased by 6.5%.

In January 2023, the total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 269 thousand, which was 57.8% more than in January 2022, when it amounted to 170 thousand passengers. Compared to January 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 257 thousand, the traffic of passengers in January 2023 increased by 4.4%.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 220 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 58.0% compared to January 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 139 thousand, and an increase of 16.3% compared to January 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 189 thousand. This was followed by the Split Airport, with 31 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 58.0% compared to January 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 20 thousand, and a decrease of 10.7% compared to January 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 35 thousand, and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 14 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 50.0% compared to January 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 9 thousand, and a decrease of 47.5% compared to January 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 26 thousand.
