Foreign trade in goods is one of the key indicators of the state of the economy of a certain country and it gives insight into the dynamics of international trade and the structure of consumption and production. Data from this field of statistics create a platform for analysing the competitiveness of the economy and the influence international shifts have on the domestic economy. They also give the production sector useful insights into global consumer trends.

In 2024, the total export of the Republic of Croatia amounted to 24.1 billion euro, which is 1.2 billion euro more compared to 2023, or a 5.1% increase.

At the same time, the total import was 42.9 billion euro, and its value increased by 3.3 billion euro, or 8.2% compared to 2023.

The foreign trade deficit in 2024 amounted to 18.8 billion euro. Compared to 2023, it increased by 12.6%, or by a 2.1 billion euro. The coverage of import by export in 2024 was 56.1%, whereas in 2023 it was 57.8%.

The most important market for the Republic of Croatia was the EU, as foreign trade in goods with EU Member States accounted for 65.4% of the total export in 2024, which increased by 1.1% compared to the previous year. Germany is a partner country to which the largest quantity of goods was exported in 2024, with a share of 11.9% in the total export and an increase of 2.3% compared to the previous year.

Import from EU Member States accounted for 78.6% of the total import in 2024 and increased by 10.6% compared to 2023. The largest quantity of goods in 2024 was imported from Germany, with a share of 14.4% in the total import and an increase of 9.0% compared to 2023.

In 2024, foreign trade in goods with third countries accounted for 34.6% of the total export, which increased by 13.5% compared to 2023. Foreign trade in goods with third countries accounted for 21.4% of the total import, which increased by 0.3% compared to 2023.
