Retail trade is a statistical indicator that plays a key role in understanding market dynamics, i.e. in monitoring consumer habits. Annual retail trade and other service activities turnover indices, which are important economic indicators suitable for analysing economic development, are used to measure the dynamics of change of this phenomenon.

In 2024, the working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased in nominal terms by 9.4%, and it increased by 7.3% in real terms compared to the previous year.

In 2024, the working-day adjusted turnover from service activities increased by 7.6% compared to the previous year. Following a significant decrease in turnover due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a progressive increase in turnover from service activities was realised in the period from 2021 to 2024, which had a positive impact on the national economy.

In 2024, the highest increase in turnover was recorded in Accommodation and food service activities (I), as much as 9.6%, in Administrative and support service activities (N), of 9.0%, and in Real estate activities (L), with an increase of 7.7%.

Within section Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G) the highest increase in turnover was recorded for the activity Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with a rise of 9.0%.
