REPUBLIC OF CROATIA – CROATIAN BUREAU OF STATISTICS
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics is the main
producer, disseminator and coordinator of the Official Statistical
System of the Republic of Croatia as well as the main representative
of the national statistical system in front of European and
international bodies competent for statistical affairs.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics is a government administrative organisation that is autonomous in performing its activities in line with the provisions of the
Official Statistics Act
(Official Gazette, No 25/20). Its regular statistical surveys are based on the Programme
of Statistical Activities of the Republic of Croatia 2018 – 2020
(the Official Gazette No 31/18) and the Annual Implementation Plan
of Statistical Activities of the Republic of Croatia, which define
all the institutions that, along with the Bureau, form the system of
the official statistics of the Republic of Croatia.
MISSION
Quality and timely statistical data
The Statistical System of the Republic of Croatia produces unbiased statistical data on social and economic processes, thus providing a factual framework for observing and analysing of the situation in the Croatian economy and for directing of policies related to the development of the Croatian society and economy as well as of policies of the European Union.
VISION
The strategy is determined by the vision
The vision of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics as the main producer of the official statistics is based on the following targets:
- Efficiency and innovativeness in performing activities as well as the implementation of present-day technologies and electronic forms of communication
- Involvement in social and economic phenomena
- User-oriented approach
- Attracting experts from various scientific fields.
THE CROATIAN STATISTICAL SYSTEM
The activities of the official statistics of the Republic of Croatia are carried out by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics and other bodies authorised by the Official Statistics Act and the Programme of Statistical Activities for carrying out the tasks of the official statistics (producers of the official statistics).
THE EUROPEAN STATISTICAL SYSTEM
Decisions on the planning and implementation of the European Community policies are based on reliable and comparable statistics. Therefore, the European Statistical System (ESS) has been established aimed at providing the comparable statistics at the European Union level. It represents the partnership between the European Community statistical authority, represented by Eurostat on behalf of the European Commission, and the national statistical institutes as well as other national authorities responsible in each Member State for the development, production and dissemination of the European statistics.
The European Statistical System (ESS) comprises the European Economic Area (EEA) countries (28 EU Member States, Lichtenstein and Norway as well as Switzerland, which is not the EEA member but its citizens, are granted equal rights as EEA countries) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries (Island, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).
The Member States collect data and compile the statistics for both national and EU purposes. The ESS functions as a network in which Eurostat’s role is to lead the way in the harmonisation of statistics in close cooperation with national statistical authorities.
