Industrial production is a process that results in finished industrial products and services, it drives exports, contributes to the development of industrial infrastructure and other branches of the economy and provides numerous jobs. Data on how much is produced and sold and on the number of enterprises on the market are important inputs for strategic planning based on reasoned decisions.
How much the total industrial production increased or decreased in relation to a specific observed period is shown by the industrial production volume, which is expressed in the form of an index, and which is an important short-term indicator of a business cycle. Considering the data for 2023, as compared to the base year 2022, the total industrial production decreased by 0.3%.
The labour productivity in industry, calculated as a relation between the industrial production volume and the number of persons employed in industry, increased by 1.1% in 2023, and the total number of persons employed in industry decreased by 1.4% in 2023 compared to 2022.
The increase or decrease in the prices at which the producer sells its products on the domestic market is shown by the industrial producer price index, which was higher by 6.0% in 2023 compared to 2022.
The value of industrial products sold in 2023, as compared to 2022, was higher by 763 million euro, while in 2022, as compared to 2021, it was higher by 6.6 billion euro.
